About the Role

Freethink Media’s award-winning in-house Creative Studio is seeking an enthusiastic Staff Writer to work with our partner Stand Together, crafting stories about individuals and organizations making a significant impact in areas like education, criminal justice, mental health, addiction, and more. You’ll produce a high volume of impactful feature articles and other written content each month, spotlighting changemakers and sharing their powerful stories of transformation and hope.

What You’ll Do:

Write impactful stories: Produce 5-8 feature articles each month that highlight changemakers across the country. Your stories will be thought-provoking, educational, and inspiring.
Collaborate and ideate: Bring your creativity to the table. Contribute ideas and write-ups for pitches and help shape content for articles and social media alongside a dynamic team.
Engage with diverse voices: Conduct in-depth interviews with sources from a wide range of backgrounds and ideological perspectives. You’ll have the chance to connect with people who are driving change, drawing out their most compelling stories.
Work in a fast-paced environment: You thrive in an entrepreneurial setting where ideas move quickly. You’re energized by the opportunity to create and share stories that matter, and you’re flexible and willing to pivot when the need arises.
Feedback-driven: You embrace constructive feedback and are excited to grow and refine your craft in a team environment that values transparency, open communication, and continual learning.

What You’ll Need:

Nuanced editorial voice: You bring a clear, confident point of view to your writing while honoring the complexity of the issues we cover. You know how to hold readers’ attention and thoughtfully guide them through layered, often challenging topics—shaping narratives that don’t just inform, but spark reflection and open minds.
Writing experience: You’re an experienced writer and journalist who loves producing engaging, high-quality content. You’re comfortable producing a high volume (8 articles per month) without sacrificing quality.
Creative mindset: You bring fresh ideas and enjoy collaborating with others to brainstorm and pitch exciting stories and content.
Journalistic skills: You have a knack for conducting interviews that uncover deep insights and weave them into compelling narratives.
Startup energy: You thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment where you can juggle multiple projects and adapt to new challenges.
Strong communication: You communicate clearly and confidently with stakeholders, sources, and teammates, always with curiosity and an open mind.
Passion for solutions journalism: You’re drawn to stories about change and progress, not cynicism. You’re committed to highlighting solutions to our country’s biggest challenges.
